Differential staining of neuronal and glial nuclei.

چکیده
The histological differentiation of neuronal from glial nuclei may be useful in the identification of tumours and in the study of developing nervous tissues. The following method does this by staining the glial nucleus red and the neuronal nucleus green. It also stains other structures in the neural parenchyma. Formol-fixed tissues taken down to water and embedded in paraffin are used. 1 The sections (10y) are placed for 10 minutes in 1% brilliant crystal scarlet (Ponceau R or Xyledine) solution made up with 1% acetic acid diluted in distilled water. 2 Washed in distilled water 3 Five minutes in 0 5 % phosphotungstic acid 4 Washed briefly in distilled water 5 Stained 30 seconds to one minute in 1% methyl green (made with distilled water) 6 Washed in distilled water 7 Dehydrate, clear, and mount in DPX The glial nucleus stains red, neuronal nucleus green, the nucleolus red, myelin red, axons green, red blood cells red, and connective tissue red.

Effects of spironolactone and fludrocortisone on neuronal and glial toxicity induced by N-methyl-D-Aspartate and chloroquine in cell culture
Spironolactone has produced beneficial effects in animal models of neurodegenerative disorders. However, the underlying mechanisms of this agent on neurons and glia are mostly unknown. Therefore, we aimed to show the effects of spironolactone and fludrocortisone, a mineralocorticosteroid receptor agonist, on neuronal and glial toxicity induced by N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) activation and chlor...

1. Various types of nuclear preparations, with different ratios of neuronal to glial nuclei, were isolated from guinea-pig cerebral grey matter and ox cerebral grey matter and white matter. Conditions appropriate for the separate assay of RNA and poly A formation were described. Comparative rates of RNA and poly A formation were studied in cerebral and liver nuclei. 2. RNA polymerase activity p...
متن کاملNeuronal antinuclear antibody in sensory neuronopathy from lung cancer.
We found an antinuclear antibody highly restricted to nuclei of neurons in two patients with subacute sensory neuronopathy complicating oat cell carcinoma of the lung. Serum was tested by indirect immunofluorescence and immunoperoxidase staining. At low concentrations of antibody, only the nuclei of the neurons were stained. At high concentrations, there was also staining of the nuclei of glial...
متن کاملCerebral astrocytoma in a sheep
Astrocytoma as one of the most common central nervous system (CNS) tumors is rarely reported in veterinary literature. A 7-year-old Persian Lori-Bakhtiari ewe was presented to the clinic with a two months history of progressive blindness, nystagmus to the right, bilaterally decreased pupillary reflexes, head pressing and paddling. At necropsy, a whitish well-circumscribed mass with dimensions o...
متن کاملA Study on Transdifferentiation of Bone Marrow Stromal Cells into Neuronal and Glial-Like Cells In Vitro by Different Inducers
Introduction: There are some evidences to suggest that bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) not only differentiate into mesodermal cells, but also adopt the fate of endodermal and ectodermal cell types. BMSCs can be a valuable cell source as an autograft for clinical application involving regeneration of the central nervous system. Bone marrow stromal cells can be expanded rapidly in vitro and can...
